Interview with Claas Westendorf, Director USP Support

Please introduce yourself

My name is Claas and I joined Rentschler Biopharma in March 2016. I studied Technical Biology at the University of Stuttgart after completing my education as a medical-technical assistant. Already during my studies, I deepened my knowledge especially in cell biology and bioprocess engineering. After one year in biotechnological research, I started at Rentschler as a process engineer in the USP support group. As a process engineer, I was primarily responsible for cell bank manufacturing and their storage. In 2018, I received an opportunity to facilitate my personal and professional development and I took on the leadership of the USP support group. In my free time, I like to play board games and do sports like running and bicycling.

What excites you about working as Director Support Production?

As Director USP Support, I am motivated and full of anticipation to optimize our daily work together with my team and make small improvements every day. It inspires me to have the opportunity to be part of the process of manufacturing drugs for patients with serious and rare diseases.

How has Rentschler Biopharma helped you in your career?

Rentschler Biopharma supported me on my path to reach my personal goals. I gained a lot of expertise in technical competence and disciplinary leadership. Thereby, I profited from the knowledge and experience of my colleagues as well as from external trainings.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my team, which overcomes every challenge together. All team members support each other and are there for one another.

Do you have tips for young talents who are interested in joining us?

At Rentschler Biopharma, there is no daily work routine. Many different projects and a wide range of people ensure that there are new challenges every day, which are fun to overcome as a team.
