
September 27, 2022 Rescue operation on Laupheim campus due to hot steam
Laupheim, September 27, 2022, 9 pm (CET) – Rentschler Biopharma SE, a leading global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for biopharmaceuticals, informs about an accident that happened this afternoon on its campus in Laupheim (Germany), Erwin-Rentschler-Str. 21.
In our process development department, hot steam escaped when the sterilizer was opened at the end of a sterilization process. Two employees were injured, one of them probably seriously. Promptly, all necessary emergency services and the internal emergency team were alerted. Rescue services, fire department and police were on site with emergency personnel. Of the two injured employees, one person is currently undergoing inpatient treatment, the second person was able to return home after a medical check. Currently, Rentschler Biopharma does not have any further information. Our thoughts and best wishes are with the affected employees and their families.
After the necessary safety measures have been implemented, the corresponding room is currently being prepared for the resumption of operations. The accident investigations were started immediately. Rentschler Biopharma is in direct contact with the representatives of the responsible authorities to evaluate the causes.
