Recently, our colleagues Anja Trapp, Serge Stamm and Jadranka Koehn contributed to a scientific publication, “Analysis of complex protein elution behavior in preparative ion exchange processes using a colloidal particle adsorption model”, that was published in the Journal of Chromatography A.

 

The study derives a kinetic model of protein adsorption on ion exchange media, that can facilitate the characterization of chromatographic process steps.

 

By using the model for several industrial case studies, it was shown that the model can reproduce the elution behavior of proteins over a wide range of protein load densities. The ability of the model to describe complex elution behavior can potentially help to better understand industrial ion exchange processes and to support the development of these processes in a model-based approach.
