Interview with Serge M. Stamm, Doctoral Candidate (Process Science)

In our interview, Serge M. Stamm talks about his role and why he enjoys working at Rentschler Biopharma.

Tell us about yourself

I am a pharmaceutical bioprocess engineer with a major focus and several years of experience in the field of life science. During my master's degree, working on malaria research at Johns Hopkins University, I gained insight into and developed a strong interest for molecular protein biochemistry. After graduating from TU Munich, I began to work as a bioprocess engineer at Rentschler Biopharma in the 3000 L scale downstream production department. After 3 years of working in that sector, I was eager to broaden and extend my knowledge and switched internally to our process science department in order to conduct research for my Ph.D. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors for all kinds of sports like climbing and kitesurfing in summer as well as skiing in winter.

What excites you about your current role?

What I enjoy the most is the possibility to gain experience in many different areas of biopharmaceutical research and development as well as the insights into fascinating treatment methods for severe diseases. As a Ph.D. candidate at Rentschler Biopharma, I have the freedom to investigate and apply exciting technologies in order to build bridges between academic and industrial research.

Tell us something about your current project?

My focus lies in novel methods to create so-called bio-betters, in particular, biopharmaceuticals with improved therapeutic potential. More on that in the near future...

What is special about working for the Rentschler Biopharma family?

The mixture between a family-owned business on the one hand and a globally operating biopharmaceutical company on the other is intriguing. With opportunities to learn, grow and contribute, working at Rentschler provides an excellent environment to help patients with rare and severe diseases.
