November 30, 2015 Participation in PEGS Europe 2015
From 2nd to 6th of November 2015 Rentschler attended the Seventh Annual PEGS Europe Protein & Antibody Engineering Summit in Lisbon, Portugal. The PEGS Europe is the largest European conference comprising all topics of protein and antibody engineering. 700 participants from industry and academia had the possibility to view 175 presentations and 115 posters. Furthermore interactive roundtables as well as breakout and panel discussions of high quality level were held.
The participants were informed in five streams about antibody engineering, protein expression, biologics development and bioproduction as well as impurities and stabilities. As a renewed market trend innovative protein scaffolds on the threshold between discovery and development were discussed. Also the numerous lectures about cell line optimization marked an important focus of the conference.
Rentschler was represented by Dr. Stefan Schmidt, Vice President Process Science and Production, who took over various functions: He was speaker and moderator of a roundtable discussion “Transition of projects from discovery to development: What are important points to consider or lessons learned”.
His presentation under the heading “Purification of therapeutic roteins under cost constraints” has been followed by more than 50 visitors. Dr. Schmidt demonstrated how to solve challenges by applying disposables, simplifying processes through generic buffers, replacing costly affinity resins and reducing the number of steps in platform processes. Another focus of the presentation was the modeling of efficient purification scenarios for continuous processes. His case studies with examples from various protein molecule classes highlight successful process design, optimization strategies and critical manufacturing parameters.
