Rentschler well-represented at PepTalk 2017

January 16, 2017 Rentschler well-represented at PepTalk 2017

Expertise in innovative protein formats highlighted in three presentations

At the beginning of the year, from 9-13 January 2017 approximately 1,300 experts met at the PepTalk Protein Science Week in San Diego, California to discuss new trends in the development and manufacturing of protein therapeutics. At this year's conference, more than 300 experienced speakers presented relevant topics such as protein engineering, formulation, analytics and protein expression and purification. Rentschler was present at this important event with a booth and three lectures.

Already in the preliminary conference program, Rentschler was involved in a short course on the topic of challenges in the manufacturing of complex biologics. Rentschler's experience with the production of different fusion proteins was presented under the title "Typical manufacturing issues of fusion proteins and how to overcome them" by Dr. Stefan R. Schmidt, Senior Vice President of Process Science and Production. He gave a review on the structural diversity of fusion proteins and stated important recommendations for the design and manufacturing of these molecules.

In a second lecture, entitled "Process development and manufacturing of bi-functional molecules targeting cancer" a review on another innovative substance class in the area of protein therapeutics was presented. Currently, there are more than 60 different concepts for bi-functional antibodies. Many of these substances are being tested for difficult to treat diseases. However, the production of these complex molecules is often challenging. Rentschler already has extensive experience with it, which was demonstrated in various examples.

The third lecture entitled "Modular approaches for diverse molecules: reinventing smart bioprocessing" highlighted a modular approach for efficient process design. This approach utilizes established methods and tested principles to quickly and cost-effectively develop suitable purification processes for complex proteins.

The lectures inspired the visitors to a wide range of questions, which they discussed following the presentations at the Rentschler exhibition booth.
