May 30, 2014 ACTIP Meeting from 12th to 13th May in Copenhagen

Top-class exchange of experiences on the topics “Glycoengineering - Better Cells for Better Products” and “Challenges with Single Use Equipment”

From 12th to 13th of May 2014, representatives of Rentschler attended the semi-annual meeting of the ACTIP (Animal Cell Technology Industrial Platform, in Copenhagen. The ACTIP united representatives of the major European Pharma and Biotech companies. Approximately 40 cell culture specialists participated in the current meeting which was hosted by the leading Danish Biopharma company Novo Nordisk.

A key objective of the ACTIP meetings is an exchange of experiences on scientific and technological subjects for the future in the field of pharmaceutical biotechnology. This time in the scientific part the topic “Glycoengineering - Better Cells for Better Products” and in the technological part the topic “Challenges with Single Use Equipment” were intensively discussed.

The introduction lecture to the technological part was given by Dr. Dethardt Müller, Vice President Technology Development at Rentschler, entitled “Managing Extractables & Leachables in a Flexible Manufacturing Facility – A Three Years’ Experience in Full Plastics”.
Rentschler demonstrated its expertise in full-disposable manufacturing from plant design to operation.
Further the science and risk-based approach that has been implemented at Rentschler for the assessment of leachable impact in GMP manufacturing was illustrated.
The presentation found great resonance in view of the consistently increasing importance of single-use technologies in biopharmaceutical production.
In subsequent discussions many of the meeting participants gave greatly positive feedbacks to Rentschler’s openness to share its three years’ experience in full plastics.
