September 25, 2018 Exciting lectures and stimulating exchange at the 5th Laupheim Biotech Days
Under the motto "Bioprocess Intensification", internationally renowned representatives from academia and industry gathered to discuss how the performance of cell culture-based bioprocesses could be improved. The complete program, including abstracts and poster list, can be accessed on the event website.
In the run-up to the 5th Laupheim Biotech Days on the morning of Thursday, September 20th, about 60 young scientists exchanged and discussed the results of their research in the "Young Scientists Cell Culture Biotechnology Retreat." The topics of the oral and poster presentations ranged from improved cell line development and single-cell cultivation to the prevention of aggregates and new purification strategies.
The main event with over 150 participants started on Thursday evening with a key note speech from Michael Scholl, CEO of Leukocare AG. In this inspiring talk titled "What's Cooking Between Drug Discovery and Revenue? Unlocking the full potential of drug substance by integrating drug product development from lab to launch," he illustrated the importance of formulation in drug product development.
On the second day of the meeting, leading international scientists gave insights into their expertise along the whole bioprocessing journey; examining state-of-the-art aspects of upstream and downstream bioprocess intensification. This included the integration of continuous operation modes as well as highlighting the immense opportunities presented through technical solutions, while critically discussing the limits of these approaches.
