Rentschler Biopharma successfully concludes ISO 50001 certification for energy management

Rentschler Biopharma ISO 50001 Team and certification

Rentschler Biopharma SE, a leading global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for biopharmaceuticals, today announced that the company implemented a new energy management system (EnMS) at the Laupheim site and obtained ISO 50001 certification. Following the ISO 27001 global Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification, which was achieved in summer 2024, the EnMS certification is yet another step in the continuous improvement of Rentschler Biopharma’s processes and services to offer best-in-class solutions for its clients.

Designed to help organizations systematically optimize energy performance and promote more efficient energy management, the international energy management system standard ISO 50001 provides transparency on how energy is consumed within an organization. Its implementation not only promotes best practices in energy management but also increases efficiency while lowering consumption, benefiting both the environment and cost reduction.

Christiane Bardroff, Chief Operational Officer at Rentschler Biopharma, said: “We are proud that our energy management system has achieved ISO 50001 certification, demonstrating our adherence to the highest industry standards. This accomplishment reflects the dedicated efforts of our employees, whose support was crucial in achieving this milestone. At Rentschler Biopharma, sustainability is embedded in our ethos. We are committed to continuously enhancing sustainability across all our processes and projects, ensuring that creating value sustainably remains the foundation of our operations for the benefit of our clients, partners, and employees.”

Tobias Kubsch, Head of Engineering, EHS and Sustainability at Rentschler Biopharma, added: “The implementation of our energy management system was an important project for our company. Completed in just nine months, this complex system reflects the commitment and diligence of all colleagues involved. Their teamwork and precise execution led to our organization receiving this certification without any deviation. This achievement not only demonstrates our capability but also reinforces our commitment to continuous improvement in our corporate culture.”

The ISO 50001 standard provides organizations with a framework of requirements to develop a policy for more efficient energy use, setting related objectives and energy targets, analyzing operational activities that impact its energy performance, and enabling a data-based evaluation of how well the energy policy is working. This ultimately leads to continuous improvement of Rentschler Biopharma’s energy-related performance and the energy management systems in place and underscores the company’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
